This event bridges the worlds of scholarship, performance, and criticism to think through the possibilities for feminist opera studies and women in opera in the twenty-first century. Public panels, workshops, and roundtables will feature scholarly work and discussions with professionals from NYC’s opera scene, including, composers, producers, directors, critics, and opera singers coming together to talk opera. Throughout the event, performances by Columbia’s New Opera Workshop of works by women both historical and living will introduce these works to NYC audiences, culminating in the world premiere of three new operatic works.
